Cruising with Kids - Helpful Preparations
A cruise is a great chance for the whole family to spend a wonderful time together. But still, if you are bringing the little ones along, you should plan a little in advance so as to avoid stressful situations that might interfere with the relaxed holiday atmosphere. The prospect of a fully enjoyable trip is worth the little effort.
Kids are prone to overnight health issues such as, for instance, a cough, and then it is good to have some over-the-counter medication to get the situation under control and make them fit again quickly. So children’s aspirin, chewable vitamins, and maybe a heating pad are things that should be on your packing list. In many cases there is a range of baby supplies available on board, like diapers and baby food, but by bringing these things yourself you can be sure to have the version your kid prefers ?not to mention that it is by far the cheaper solution as well.
There are cribs provided on the ship for very small children, but it may be a good idea to bring your own collapsible stroller. It will prove very useful if your child starts feeling tired during deck walks as well as during shore excursions. You may find strollers to rent on the ship as well, but you’ll have to pay for them.
Even though a family cruise means a time for the family to spend together, of course no one says you should hang out together constantly. So if the parents for example would like to have a romantic dinner or a night together, some cruise lines will offer a babysitting service. Family-friendly cruises feature special programme for the younger ones, but of course your kids will not be taken care of 24/7. So you should think of activities to entertain them in times when there is nothing else going on.
A coloring book or a card game can well maintain a peaceful atmosphere in your cabin. For children a holiday vacation ?and especially one on a cruise ship ?is a huge and exciting event, but the excitement might not last the entire time through. To comfort your kids at times when they are not feeling well, you should make sure their favorite stuffed animal or sleeping pillow is close at hand. Taking these points into account will make your family cruise an enjoyable experience for all of you.
